With everything going on in the world, I think it's more of a reason for us as a people to pick up a book or two and get saavy. Reading is so important and to be honest, it doesn't matter what method you choose, (physical book, tablet, laptop or an audiobook) as long as your learning and stimulating your mind. 

 

Learning about the financial success of black celebrities can be a very inspiring as it helps us all to remember that by working on our dream, we too can achieve or exceed their level of success. The academic achievements of celebrities is something that should also be celebrated, along with their day to day achievement. Here's a look at 19 celebs who are probably smarter than you! 

 

1. Tyra Banks- Harvard University- Business

 

 

2. Thandie Newton-  Cambridge University-  Anthropology

 

 

3. Shonda Rhimes- Dartmouth- screenwriting at USC - Creator of Greys Anatomy and the US Prime Time Hit, Scandal. She was also a contributing writer to The Princess Diaries 2. 

 

 

4. Hill Harper- Brown University (Undergraduate degree) then Harvard Law School (where his 20 year friendship with President Obama began).

 

 

5. Brian White- Dartmouth College - Political Science, Psychology and Theater Arts

 

 

6. Courtney B Vance- Harvard (Bachelor of Arts) and then Yale (Master of Fine Arts) Where he met his future wife Angela Bassett.

 

 

7. Angela Bassett- Yale University- African American Studies and Master of Fine Arts (Her Second Degree). 

 

 

8. Sanaa Lathan- Yale- Drama (second degree), Her first degree was in English from  Berkeley University.

 

 

9. Alicia Keys- Colombia University 

 

 

10. Ryan Leslie- Harvard University- Government (Political Science & Macroeconomics)

 

 

11. John Legend- Turned down Harvard to study at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied English (focusing on African-American Literature).

 

 

 

12. Barack Obama- Harvard Law School

 

 

13. Michelle Obama- Princeton- Sociology & African-American Studies and Harvard Law School.

 

 

14. Yaya DaCosta- Brown University- African Studies & International Relations. She speaks Portuguese, French, Spanish, and conversational Japanese.

 

 

15. Lupita Nyong'o- Yale- School of Drama

 

 

16. Tracee Ellis Ross- Brown University- Degree in Theater
